July, 2004 - On numerous occasions College Park Presbyterian has invited Ben Mathes, president and founder of ROW - Rivers of the World - to entertain and educate us on the exciting opportunities to help others through his organization. God's hand is truly at work in Ben's ministry. How do I know this? Two weeks ago I was able to travel with ROW to Belize. Under the umbrella of the ROW operation, I was blessed to be a part of two mission opportunities.

One group - members of the Douglas County Rotary Club - installed and networked computers for the children at the Presbyterian school in Orange Walk Town. We worked one full day wiring, installing, sweating, crawling on the floor. For what you might ask? The answer is in the faces of the children who would periodically pop into the computer lab. You could clearly see the excitement and joy in their eyes.

The next day I had a second blessing. I had the opportunity to assist a group from Covenant Presbyterian in Albany, GA. Their project (which was broken into 4 groups with each group consisting of approximately 15 people per week) is to build a church for the citizens in a small community outside Orange Walk Town. I learned so much. I now know how to split a cinder block, how to hand mix mortar, how to lay block but the most important lesson I learned was that the love for others and the love for our Lord and Savior extends beyond the walls of College Park Presbyterian and beyond the College Park community.

It extends to all areas of the world. "Love must not be a matter of words or talk; it must be genuine and show itself in action (1 John 3:18)" We are to offer ourselves to service and serve the world as Christ did. We all can help others: through prayer, through donations, and/or physical labor. You can make a difference.

"In the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ give thanks everyday for everything to our God and Father (Ephesians 5:20)"

I give thanks to God for the opportunity to return to Belize.

In His Name, Elaine Carroll
