THOUNG DARAVANN PRODUCTION

Truly a great witness to anyone—this is a man who does not have the means to provide for his own family.  His family is a result of the killing fields tragedy in Cambodia and his father told him to always care for those less fortunate.  An elder who adopted him as a boy was also killed later in life and challenged him to carry forth the torch that he did in helping him. A few years ago he lived under the main bridge going out of the city with his wife and small family along with multiple street children who had no other means of survival.  The government built him a house and the help stopped there.  He has 48 kids who he takes care of and we have no idea where they all sleep.  He is always positive and works as an actor when he can find work—which is not a terribly uncommon thing.  We had him join us for dinner and we had to move the time to 8:00 to allow him to finish work and find us.  He leaves in the morning around 5:00 on the days that he works.  His wife cooks, cleans, and cares for the children along with his efforts.  He can barely feed everyone BUT they remain happy and thankful.

Summary:

Cambodia is free to practice religion and is easy to get around.  Cars were surprisingly more popular than motor bikes in getting around.  Obtaining a VISA can be done on the spot for $20.00 (plus 1.00 if you forget your picture). We passed out many educational packets , loads of candy and toys too.  In leaving the country you can fly out or travel to Laos and Vietnam via bus and clearing customs by the bus stop at the border was easy and not very time consuming (though I guess you are out of luck if you are not allowed in for any reason).  Total cost to ride the bus is $11.00 and it is a nice bus.
